ARDF Rules

There is no official set of rules for IARU Region 2 international events. Events held in IARU Region 2 have historically used the rules developed by the IARU Region 1 ARDF Working Group, which are designed to be used world-wide:

Rules for Championships in
Amateur Radio Direction Finding

In addition to these rules, the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) has adopted Official Rules for sanctioned events held in the United States beginning in 2020:

USA Rules for Amateur Radio
Direction Finding

These rules should be used as the basis for any international ARDF events held in IARU Region 2. Adaptations will be allowed, as necessary, to accomodate the limitations of people and resources that still exist as ARDF activity matures in IARU Region 2. Acceptable modifications might include:

  • simplified starting sequence
  • reducing the minimum course length
  • using FM transmitters on two meter courses
  • reducing the number of age/gender entry categories
  • reducing the number of Jurors, and the qualifications for being a Juror

In all cases, the basic principles of fairness and good sportsmanship must be observed. Further simplification and/or modifications may be made for national or local competitions to meet local needs.
